Are there any particular considerations when choosing marine cables?

With the development of the economy, my country's merchant shipping capacity is far from meeting market demand, and more new shipbuilding is needed to inject new impetus;

The rising freight rate index has also given shipbuilding companies confidence in their investment in new shipbuilding. In the next 5 to 15 years, the role of the shipbuilding industry in my country's industrial economy will be highlighted. The development of my country's shipbuilding industry can be said to be prosperous, in full swing, and full of drama. The wire and cable industry, which is in the upstream of the industrial chain, has enough to deal with this. focus on.

With today's extremely complex and sophisticated electronic products, cable failures on ocean-going vessels must be avoided. People simply cannot accept even a short downtime, and no one can afford to replace expensive machinery a few years earlier than its service life, especially when profit margins are small and competition is extremely fierce.

Cable manufacturers have been working on challenges such as wider temperature ranges, more shielding capabilities and higher mechanical durability, as well as properties such as bending and chemical resistance required for extremely harsh environments and increasingly complex applications. However, cable failures and system outages still occur.

Cable Failure If you can correctly select imported marine cables from the beginning, many problems caused by cable failures (especially when operating in extreme and harsh environments) can be avoided. Indeed, it is simple to match the correct temperature range and rely on a PVC jacket for protection. However, there is much more to consider than this. Before finally selecting a perfectly matched cable, engineers have to consider many details, such as paying attention to how the cable will perform when used in extreme temperatures and determining possible chemical exposure.

Types of products (greases, fuels, solvents, etc.), understand the difference between flexibility and bending properties, and classify UV exposure and EMI/RFI interference.

Flexible and soft-bend imported cables require specific bend shielding. When the shield is torn and continuity is lost, the choice of standard foil shielding can lead to system failure. The difference between flexibility and bending properties should be kept in mind. It is important that marine cables can be bent and assembled. Flexible cables are easier to install and simplify fault detection in cabinets or cable ducts. One thing to note is that when cables are used to connect to cabinets, round cables provide a better seal than typical spiral cables. Therefore, the degree of bending must be correctly selected after considering the line.

In some manufacturing applications, cables will be constantly bent. Being able to withstand millions of bends is more complicated than flexibility. So, how to choose a bent cable? The first thing to consider is the type of bend, is it uniaxial, twisted, or multiaxial? Each type requires different characteristics of the cable. For example, single-axis control cables require the highest performance (up to 14 million bends) and require flexible cable construction with continuous bend shielding. In less demanding uniaxial environments, cables with a bendable structure and capable of withstanding at least 1 million bends are required. In twisting or different bending applications (such as torsion robots, etc.), complex cables are required that can be wound and subjected to arbitrary robot torsion operations up to 350°/m.

Shielding (primary factor)

Marine cables need to be shielded from the conduction and radiation of high-frequency and low-frequency electrical noise to provide signal protection, especially in some critical applications. However, due to different environments, it is difficult to determine which types of shielding are needed to protect the signal. When special protection of signals is required (such as military applications, some military regulations and applications require shielding of imported cable crosstalk and conducted EMI), it is necessary to choose a cable with a braided structure of three layers of thin metal foil to ensure grounding continuity and Eliminate transmission gaps. If only general EMI protection (conducted and radiated) is required, common foil shielding will suffice. Chemicals, Greases, Solvents and Fuels Environmental Applications The impact of chemicals on cables in the environment is often overlooked except in cases where the impact is particularly obvious, such as the effect of grease on polymer cable jackets. It is important to consider that many materials will behave differently in the same chemical environment due to differences in strength and exposure.
